Location: Farmington, MO.

Job Summary

The Associate Counselor position is responsible for assisting individuals, in accordance with their treatment plan, with mental health and/or substance use disorders to improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments under close supervision of a Qualified Addiction Professional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the screening/assessment process under the supervision of a licensed/qualified counselor or therapist within appropriate time frames as designated by State Regulatory/accrediting body/agency standards.
  • Develop treatment plans for clients in accordance with State Regulatory/accrediting body guidelines that demonstrate evolution and individualization based on information gathered from assessments under the supervision of licensed/qualified therapists.
  • Complete any and all correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Participates in clinical staffing/team meetings, providing feedback on all pertinent cases.
  • Adhere to weekly Collaborative Service Goal (CSG) expectations/direct service provision model.
  • Document all the services provided in accordance with State Regulatory/accrediting body/agency standards. Ensure services are entered within the appropriate time frame, designated format, notes refer to treatment plans, etc.
  • Ensure that documentation of treatment plans, plan updates and discharge summaries are reviewed and countersigned by a Qualified Addiction Professional.
  • Complete any file/charting deficiencies within the appropriate time frame.
  • Assist clients through the transition process and complete any final correspondence such as transition summary, plan, letter, etc.
  • Complete annual training identified through individualized training plan meeting minimum training hours per the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).
  • Maintain positive professional relationships with referral sources, clients, and coworkers, adhering to Code of Ethics and agency policies.
  • Handle crisis situations as they occur, notifying people leader when policies dictate.
  • Facilitate group counseling, group education, family conferences, and individual sessions with emphasis on examining attitudes, feelings, behaviors that promote recovery, healthy decision making, and improved problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates interest in long-term and short-term goals and objectives of the company.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor, Program Director, Vice President or the Executive Team Member.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of case management and rehabilitation methods, principles, and techniques, as they relate to mental health and substance use disorder treatment.
  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations of the program to which the associate is assigned.
  • Basic knowledge of biological, cognitive-affective, and social bases of behavior.
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic theories and techniques, individual differences, and scientific methods or procedures of understanding and influencing human behavior.
  • Capable of employing methods and counseling techniques in an effective manner.
  • Ability to assist in conducting individual and group interventions.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Experience And/or Education Qualifications

Missouri Requirements

  • Associate's degree or high school diploma/equivalent required.
  • A trainee that meets the requirements for registration, supervision, and professional development as set forth by either:
  • The Missouri Credentialing Board, Inc.; OR
  • The appropriate board of professional registration with the Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions, and Professional Registration
  • Associate Counselors must be supervised by a Qualified Addiction Professional who has completed MCB Clinical Supervision Training. All counselor functions performed by an Associate Counselor shall be performed pursuant to the supervisor's control, oversight, guidance, and full professional responsibility.

Individuals must be willing to become credentialed in additional states, other than the state currently licensed in. Individuals must be willing and comfortable with providing telehealth services to the individuals we serve.

  • None

Employment Requirements

  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.
  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Current driver's license in state of residency, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
  • First Aid certification within three (3) months of beginning employment and upon renewal date.
  • CPR certification within three (3) months of beginning employment and upon renewal date.
  • Behavioral Management training completed within thirty (30) days of employment or first available class after start date:
  • CPI for Residential programs
  • Crisis Management on Relias Learning or Verbal De-escalation for Outpatient programs
  • Achievement of fifty (50) hour training requirement annually (Missouri Only)

Physical Requirements

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
