What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finance Manager/ In-House Controller position at Burning Acre Cannabis Bakery?
Burning Acres is an award-winning cannabis dispensary seeking a strategic, on-site Controller / Finance Manager to lead our financial operations from our home office. We are looking for a senior-level professional who can manage complex AP/AR, maintain a clean Balance Sheet year-round, and provide CFO-level insights, including EBITDA analysis and cash flow forecasting.
This is a fully in-house position requiring daily, physical oversight of the company’s financial health, cash-handling procedures, and accounting systems. This role is not remote or hybrid.
Key Responsibilities
- On-Site Financial Oversight
Manage all day-to-day accounting functions locally, including strict physical cash-reconciliation protocols from safe to bank to ensure 100% deposit accuracy.
- CFO-Level Strategy & Reporting
Prepare and deliver monthly executive-level reporting, including EBITDA calculations, cash flow forecasts, and profitability trends to guide ownership decisions.
- Balance Sheet Integrity
Take full ownership of the Balance Sheet across multiple entities, ensuring all assets and liabilities are accurately recorded, reconciled, and audit-ready at all times.
- System Modernization & Process Improvement
Lead the transition from manual Google Sheets–based bill pay to a fully automated QuickBooks Online (QBO) accounting environment. Establish scalable, professional accounting processes.
- Budgeting & Variance Analysis
Build and manage annual budgets on-site and provide monthly Budget vs. Actual reporting with clear variance explanations to identify inefficiencies and eliminate waste.
- Payroll & Compliance Oversight
Oversee payroll data through Square and ensure accurate integration into accounting records. Support all tax filings (including Form 1065) with verified, clean, and well-documented financial data.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or MBA preferred).
- Must be able to work on-site/in-house daily.
- Advanced mastery of QuickBooks Online (QBO), including deep cleanups and complex multi-entity management.
- Proven experience transitioning a company from manual processes to automated, professional accounting standards.
- Strong ability to prepare, analyze, and clearly explain Balance Sheets, EBITDA, and financial performance to non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience in cash-intensive or regulated industries (retail, cannabis, hospitality) is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week
