String Lead – Cheese Packaging

Burnett Dairy Cooperative is seeking a String Lead to support our String Cheese packaging department. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines production work with overseeing a team when the supervisor is not on shift. Position Overview
The String Lead performs string packer duties as needed and steps into supervisory responsibilities when the String Supervisor is absent. Responsibilities include preparing daily worksheets, detailing orders, maintaining accurate records, checking order accuracy, and supporting employees on the production floor.

Important Communication Note
This role involves leading a shift where most employees are Spanish speakers. Bilingual skills are not required for this position. A bilingual employee is on the shift, and additional resources are available to support communication. Strong leadership, clear communication, and respect for a diverse team are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Sanitize and set up machines for daily operation
• Pre-count and label bags accurately
• Read and follow daily production worksheets
• Move cheese between tables for packaging
• Bag and weigh a variety of package sizes
• Operate packaging equipment including Koch Sealer, Boxers, Over-Wrap, and other machinery as needed
• Dismantle, wash, and reassemble machines at the end of the day
• Sample cheese for lab testing
• Perform and document required quality checks:
• Metal detector testing every two hours
• Dip sanitation bucket testing every two hours
• Bag gas level testing hourly
• Wrap and move pallets
• Assist with the Hooper machine and brine room as needed
• Cut and bag block cheese for the cheese store
• Ensure equipment is in good working condition and contact maintenance when repairs are needed
• Perform general housekeeping duties including sweeping cheese and trash removal

Supervisory Duties (When Supervisor Is Absent)

• Prepare daily worksheets and detail orders
• Maintain accurate account records
• Check order accuracy
• Enforce safety policies
• Document employee attendance
• Assist employees with questions
• Promote a positive and respectful work environment
• Enforce all company policies and procedures

Additional Responsibilities

• Comply with Safe Quality Food (SQF) system requirements
• Maintain plant policies and procedures related to food safety and regulatory compliance
• Follow all company policies and procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Availability

• Regular and dependable attendance is required
• Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Lift, push, or pull 25 pounds frequently
• Lift 50 pounds occasionally
• Lift up to 80 pounds rarely
• Continuous standing and walking
• Occasional balancing and stooping
• Repetitive motion with frequent use of hands for grasping, reaching, pinching, and holding
