Position Summary: Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Special Education Instructional Coach (Teacher on Special Assignment) will serve as an Education Specialist instructional leader across school sites while supporting a positive and inclusive school climate. The Special Education Coach will support the district vision for high-quality, inclusive instructional practices while working collaboratively with a diverse team of students and staff across preschool through eighth grade. The Teacher on Special Assignment will be a lead member of the district’s instructional leadership team and will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of site and district goals related to special education and inclusive practices. The Special Education Coach will work closely with site administrators and district leadership to strengthen instructional practices, support teachers through coaching and professional learning, and promote equitable access to rigorous, engaging learning opportunities for students with disabilities. The Special Education Coach will collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and support personnel to align curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices that support student growth, access to grade-level standards, and meaningful participation in the least restrictive environment. Through coaching, modeling, and facilitating professional learning, the Special Education Coach will help build staff capacity in areas such as differentiated instruction, Universal Design for Learning, progress monitoring, and evidence-based practices for supporting students with diverse learning needs. Requirements / Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in Special Education, Science Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience, including experience supporting diverse learners and students with disabilities Experience supporting teachers through coaching, modeling lessons, differentiation strategies, data analysis, and professional development preferred Experience collaborating with special education staff, general education teachers, and related service providers preferred Knowledge and Skills Strong knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices, differentiation strategies, and inclusive instructional approaches for students with disabilities Understanding of mathematics instructional practices, curriculum standards, and assessment strategies, including accommodations and modifications Ability to analyze student data, IEP goals, and progress monitoring data to support instructional decision-making and improve student outcomes Knowledge of special education laws, IEP processes, and inclusive practices in general education settings Understanding of coaching frameworks, adult learning theory, and collaborative professional learning practices Familiarity with district, state, and federal educational policies, including IDEA, Section 504, and accountability requirements Proficiency with platforms/applications related to document and file production, collaboration, reporting systems, progress monitoring tools, and data management Certifications/Licenses Possess and maintain a valid California Teaching Credential (Education Specialist required) Pass BSD pre-employment DOJ/FBI Live Scan Fingerprinting and TB testing, including NASDTEC search
