Position Summary

The Iron Worker/Rigger is responsible for safely performing structural steel erection, rigging, equipment installation, and related construction activities on industrial and commercial projects. This position works under the direction of the Iron/Rigging Foreman and General Foreman to complete assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, company standards, and applicable safety regulations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural steel erection, equipment setting, and miscellaneous iron installation.
  • Safely rig, signal, and assist with lifting operations involving cranes and other lifting equipment.
  • Inspect rigging equipment before use and remove damaged or defective equipment from service.
  • Read and interpret basic construction drawings, rigging plans, and work instructions.
  • Properly use hand tools, power tools, and specialty rigging equipment.
  • Assist with unloading, staging, and organizing materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Participate in Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), pre-task planning, and daily toolbox talks.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents, damaged equipment, or injuries to supervision.
  • Wear and properly maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work safely at elevations using approved fall protection systems.
  • Follow instructions from the Foreman, General Foreman, Superintendent, and Project Management.
  • Maintain productivity while performing quality workmanship that meets project specifications.
  • Assist other crafts when directed and support overall project objectives.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a strong work ethic at all times.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous ironworking, rigging, or industrial construction experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of structural steel erection and rigging practices.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and rigging equipment.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic construction math.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and safe work practices.
  • NCCER Ironworker certification, OSHA 10/30, Signal Person, or Rigging certifications are preferred but not required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.


Work Requirements

  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier materials with assistance or mechanical equipment.
  • Climb ladders, scaffolding, structural steel, and aerial lifts.
  • Work at heights while wearing required fall protection equipment.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
  • Work around heavy equipment, cranes, moving machinery, noise, dust, and changing construction site conditions.
  • Travel to project sites as required.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
