POSITION SUMMARY:


The Engineering Supervisor for Electrical will lead a team of Project and Process Engineers and CAD Designers in the Electrical Value Stream. This individual will coordinate all Engineering activities within the Electrical Value Stream and ensure cohesion and consistency across other Value Streams. This involves evaluating all engineering work secured from outside firms (and its leadership) and the work product of Burger Engineers to be sure it meets the needs of all stakeholders, especially the Burger production team, within established budget and schedule parameters and with minimal re-work.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  1. Leads, coaches, mentors, and motivates the Electrical & Control Systems engineering team through all phases of vessel construction and re-fit projects, focusing on electrical, power, controls, communications, and software essential to vessel function, certification, and performance.
  2. Supervises and coordinates the deliverables of outside electrical, controls, communications, and software partners that assist Burger in client development and project delivery. Ensuring performance accountability to established scope, timing, resource utilization, and budget for the client projects.
  3. Collaborates extensively with the Engineering Systems and Standards and Quality/CI teams to ensure appropriate standards are followed to minimize client project duration, while sustaining and evolving the high level of vessel quality and performance the company is known for.
  4. Ensures engineering deliverables meet marine electrical, controls, communication, and software standards, classification society requirements (e.g., ABS, Lloyd’s), and Burger’s craftsmanship expectations for custom yacht, commercial vessel, military vessel, and refit/repair builds.
  5. Develops and manages detailed engineering work schedules for electrical components, switchgear and power distribution systems, controls and communication systems, and related software, coordinating key milestones to align with overall build timelines. Manages capacity planning for the engineering team of this Value Stream as well.
  6. Oversee compliance with the Yacht Construction Specifications (YCS) and Yacht Construction Agreement (YCA), ensuring electrical engineering & control systems design and construction aligns with vessel architecture, class rules, and owner specifications.
  7. Tracks engineering completion status for all electrical, power, control, communication, and software packages, including 3D CAD modeling, schematics, shop drawings, and test/validation plans for electrical, control, communication, and software components used throughout the vessel.
  8. Ensures effective cross functional engineering change management communication, coordination, and implementation when client, supplier, or internal change orders occur.
  9. Maintains proactive collaboration with Supply Chain to ensure timely procurement of marine-grade electrical, control, and communication system components, with Quality Assurance for any needed inspections, and with Manufacturing to coordinate all needed activities.
  10. Facilitate early engagement with cross-functional departments to identify and resolve potential bottlenecks in all electrical, control, communication, and software systems manufacturing steps.
  11. Acts as the primary liaison between Electrical & Control Systems engineering and production teams, translating design intent into manufacturable components and supporting real-time problem-solving during vessel assembly and integration.
  12. Supports production teams during critical boat-building phases 
  13. Establishes procedures for vetting and managing subcontractors involved in electrical activities, ensuring compliance with marine standards and Burger’s quality benchmarks.
  14. Reviews technical proposals, initiates purchase order documentation for electrical services and materials, and monitors subcontractor performance to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
  15. Archives lessons learned from past yacht builds and re-fits, updating Burger’s Knowledge Base with best practices, failure analyses, and design improvements specific to Electrical in boat manufacturing.
  16. Oversee the evaluation, selection, and implementation of equipment upgrades and automation technologies.

 

POSITION IN ORGANIZATION:


This position reports directly to the Value Stream Manager for Electrical & Control Systems.


LEADERSHIP:


Lead and mentor engineering functions and affected departments while encouraging continuous improvement for staff, departments, and organizations. Serve as a cultural leader by building trust, modeling Burger’s values, and fostering an environment where people feel respected, supported, and inspired to contribute.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

 

  1. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  2. Approximately 10 years of relevant process or project experience AND approximately 5 of those years in a leadership role.
  3. Must demonstrate proficiency with the MS Office platform, CAD/Autodesk MEP/Electrical, and project management software.
  4. Must demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, budgeting, leadership and problem solving skills.
  5. Training in Lean Manufacturing, prior experience in the Yacht and/or Commercial Vessel sector of the marine industry, familiarity with Class rules, and project management experience are all preferred.
  6. In lieu of shipbuilding experience, prior engineering and project management experience in the building and construction industry and trades is also considered highly relevant.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


The position requires regular visits to the production floor, including climbing stairs and inspecting items in tight spaces. Required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.


Frequent exposure to weld gases, arches, sparks, flashes, paints, chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and other production operations.

1st Shift Schedule: Similar to 4 9s and a 4 with flexibility, Mon - Thurs, 6:00am - 3:30pm, Friday 6:00am - 10:00am
