For more than 90 years, the Bureau of Governmental Research (BGR) has been a trusted, nonpartisan voice advancing effective, accountable government in the New Orleans region. We conduct independent public policy research to inform citizens and policymakers, improve transparency, and strengthen civic life.
BGR seeks its first Director of Communications & Engagement — a strategic, creative communicator to elevate the organization’s visibility, expand engagement, and translate our research into meaningful public impact.
This new leadership role will build BGR’s communications and outreach function from the ground up. The director will oversee a cohesive strategy across media relations, digital content, storytelling, and community engagement to amplify BGR’s impact and drive public understanding of our work.
· Shape brand and messaging strategy for accessible storytelling
· Oversee digital strategy for website, social media and newsletters
· Lead media relations and public visibility efforts
· Build community and stakeholder engagement across civic networks
· Manage communications vendors, contractors, and interns
· 5 years’ experience in communications, public relations, or journalism
· Strong writing and storytelling skills; ability to make policy issues relatable
· Experience in media outreach, digital content strategy, and analytics
· Leadership mindset with ability to direct others’ work
· Commitment to BGR’s mission of better government through independent research
