What are the responsibilities and job description for the Correctional Farm Sergeant position at Bureau of Correctional Enterprises (BCE)?
These positions are responsible for care and maintenance of a large dairy and beef herd operation at the Oregon State Farm. This position also directs and train BCE Workers in herd operations and in carrying out assigned farm tasks. This position is responsible for PIOC, livestock, farming, and farm facilities. Perform other farm duties as required and work other farm shifts as needed.
Required
- At least 18 years of age upon appointment
- No felony convictions without a pardon
- No domestic violence convictions
- Pass a medical exam, drug test, and fitness test
- Requires ability to work overtime
- Meet firearms standards
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL driver’s license.
Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:
- Preparing soil for the planting and cultivation of field crops
- Planting and applying fertilizer, herbicide & pesticide to field crops
- Harvesting and storing field crops
- Using and maintaining farm equipment and machinery
- Recognizing and treating livestock health problems
- Feeding livestock, including adjusting feed rations as needed
- Preparing and setting up milking equipment
- Using correct milking procedures
- Washing and sterilizing milking equipment
- Instructing or training others in farm operations
- Using basic first aid techniques
- Maintaining safety at work
- Knowledge of record keeping.
- Knowledge of supervisory techniques and practices.
- Knowledge of purchasing techniques and practices.
- Knowledge of security practices, policies and rules for minimum/work release status.
