DESCRIPTION & DETAILS
The Bur-Men Law Group is a boutique law firm specializing in criminal defense, civil rights litigation, and family law (with an emphasis on father's rights). We are located in the downtown area of Waukegan Illinois, directly across the street from the Lake County Courthouse. Our mission is to empower those facing legal challenges with compassion, knowledge, and innovative solutions to resolve their cases. The Bur-Men Law Group serves clients in Lake, Cook, McHenry, Kane, DuPage and surrounding counties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize incoming and seek out discovery materials
- Prioritize tasks based on upcoming trial dates and court deadlines
- Conduct discovery review meetings with clients
- Respect the confidentiality and ethical obligation of discovery materials
- Assist attorneys in preparing trials and hearings
- Coordinate with attorneys to draft motions, orders, and other legal filings
- Maintain organized digital and physical case files
- Assist with court filings and help managing the firm’s litigation docket
- Act as one of the firm's Notaries
- Dedicate up to 20% of workload as firm’s Legal Administrative Assistant (i.e. answer phones, ensuring a professional and efficient response with clients, manage attorneys’ calendars, schedule appointments, and track court dates)
- Help manage incoming calls and greet clients and visitors, ensuring a professional and welcoming reception experience
- Provide general administrative support to all members of the firm as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior law firm experience in Criminal Defense strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case management software.
- Knowledge of court filing procedures
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Professional, proactive, and client-service oriented demeanor.
- Preference for Notary.
- Preference for Proficient Spanish Communication (written and verbal).
