Bunker Hill Community College is seeking a Director of Disability Support Services to direct and manage the verification process for students requesting accommodations due to documented disabilities, while ensuring access, inclusion and equity for all BHCC students.

The Director provides leadership for the development and provision of appropriate support services to students with disabilities and ensures compliance in accordance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations. The Director will maintain proficiency with regulations including the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and current local and federal disability legislation.

The Director has responsibility for managing and directing all aspects of disability-related programs, services, and initiatives for Disability Support Services. The Director of Disability Support Services works to create an inclusive and accessible environment that supports individuals with disabilities in various aspects of their lives. The Director ensures that Disability Support Services provides student support for academic learning, utilizing assistive technology, test preparation, and maintaining a welcoming office environment.

The Director is the primary liaison between the Office of Disability Support Services and the student's faculty and academic advisors. The Director works with faculty to ensure that accommodations uphold the academic integrity and essential requirements of a courses or program while accommodations are implemented as the students documentation requires.

The Director is responsible for best practices in academic support for students with disabilities and those who experience processing and executive function barriers. The Director manages their staff, providing ongoing support as they review accommodations, support student academic plans/programs, and ensure an equitable and inclusive educational experience for the students. The Director advises all their direct reports on current standards for universal design, assistive technology, academic coaching and counseling, testing, and initiatives supporting overall student success at BHCC.

The Director will ensure the office utilizes best practices concerning learning, educational equity, inclusion and accommodations initiatives. This role requires a deep understanding of disability issues, policies, and accommodations and strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

The Director has responsibility and input regarding the office financials, including managing vendor relationships for external providers of accommodation services for BHCC students. The position is essential in the Division of Student Affairs and reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Students.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Special Education, Counseling, Disabilities Studies, Deaf Education, Psychology, Education or a closely related field.
  • Experienced disabilities support professional with five (5) years' experience and training that includes working with high school or college students, learning disability services, disability assessment and accommodations or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to interpret neuro-psychological testing and assign accommodations for learning. (Formal testing/assessment is not a responsibility of this position.)
  • Operational experience in daily management of services for students with disabilities in an educational setting.
  • Experience advising, counseling, or coaching students with disabilities.
  • Management experience in the development and administration of programs for students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act for compliance and accommodation determination in educational environments.
  • Knowledge of research and best practices on learners with disabilities and those who experience learning barriers related to processing and executive function.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations for disability accommodations and processes in educational settings, including assistive technologies and accommodations utilized by students in higher education.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience and mastery with MS Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook and other basic office software.
  • Experience and competence with CRM platforms, educational software, web-based applications, and other online communication such as WebEx and Zoom.
  • Demonstrated interest in and experience working with student and college populations that are highly diverse in terms of, for example, race, language of origin, ethnicity, nationality, religion, first-generation to college, age, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic abilities and interests.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Licensed counselor with three (3) years' experience and training that includes working with high school or college students, learning disability services, disability assessment and accommodations or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Prior work with Community College Students.
  • Experience with post-secondary educational environments.
  • Experience in managing categorical budgets and grants.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Full State Benefits.

Full Time In Person/On Campus Management Position.
