A Day in the Life:

This position entails oversight of department personnel, assisting with inventory and receiving/shipping controls, analysis of production shrinks, reporting of key performance indicators (KPI’s), providing accounting inputs for month end close to the accounting hubs, and supporting other local plant administrative processes. Additionally, this role is responsible for demonstrating a commitment to supply safe food, maintain a food safety culture within the site, continually improve the site’s food safety management system and comply with customer and regulatory requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Manage and supervise direct reports.
- Provide oversight into commercial support functions such as oilseed ticket applications and settlements, inventory reconciliations, freight payments, check off remittances, etc.
- Provide oversight to production support and analyst functions such as daily production reporting and inventory reconciliations, daily wires, KPR’s, payroll, purchase orders and good receipt tasks, cheque printing, etc.
- Provide oversight for local plant general administrative support to support the local management teams including planning events for safety and celebratory reasons, phone system, etc.
- Plan and coordinate monthly physical inventory observations of commodities and supplies, analyze book to physical variances, and report related information into the accounting hub. Ensure that month-end cut-offs for receiving and shipping facilitate an accurate inventory.
- Educate and reinforce local management controls to ensure consistent execution of key SOX controls and internal controls.
- Promote and support safety initiatives, training and culture.
- Assist the plant manager with preparation of the annual plant budget and analyzing spending variances.
- Local power user of SAP-GTM.
- Investigate material usage variances (MUV’s) more than standards, identify root cause, and recommend corrective action (e.g. recipe shrinks, inventory accuracy, etc.) that narrows monthly shrinks and provides reliable data to measure and monitor plant performance.
- Collect and report daily, weekly, and monthly production data and KPR’s in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner to support monthly scorecard development.
- Provide various inputs to monthly forecasting for plant expenses and variances – e.g. special maintenance, utility usage, known inventory variances.
- Develop and implement processes and tools used for reporting.
- Analyze data and make assumptions in discounted cash flow (DCF) inputs for investment analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, management, or related degree preferred or commensurate experience.
- 5 plus years minimum related experience in agribusiness preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work in a team and collaborative environment.
- Exposure to SAP-GTM or comparable ERP system with potential to become a power user.
- Experience with end-user tools – e.g., MS Excel, Word, Outlook.
- Versatility, flexibility, and problem-solving skills are essential.
- General knowledge of accounting principles with a background in finance is preferred.
