What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upper School Social Studies Teacher position at Bullis School?
Bullis School seeks an Upper School Social Studies Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year to join a collaborative department committed to growing an academic program that celebrates a broad range of voices and perspectives. The Social Studies department offers a variety of on-level and AP Social Studies courses including Human Geography, US History, US Government, World History, Comparative Government, and Psychology. Responsibilities include teaching five classes, contributing to department initiatives, and advising. This is a 10-month position reporting to the Chair of the Social Studies Department.
The Bullis Social Studies program equips students to develop a deep understanding of their communities and the broader world - past and present - so they can become responsible, empathetic global citizens. Each course emphasizes the development of key skills and competencies, including content knowledge, critical thinking, research, writing, and presentation. Students are expected not only to engage actively in these areas throughout each course, but also to demonstrate meaningful growth and, ultimately, mastery. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator to collaborate with curricular leaders across the school in an academic review process that ensures diverse perspectives, histories, and experiences are meaningfully incorporated into the curriculum.
