Position Requirements
Data Infrastructure & Engineering
- Design, build, and maintain a centralized data lakehouse using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake, and OneLake, consolidating data from Yardi, Argus, Juniper Square, SharePoint, Chatham, and other source systems.
- Develop and manage automated data pipelines that extract, clean, and load data from all source systems into a single, reliable layer accessible to Power BI, AI models, and future tools.
- Execute daily, weekly, and monthly data integrity processes crucial for supporting quantitative models and portfolio reporting.
- Optimize data gathering and validation processes for efficiency and scalability as the firm’s data footprint grows.
- Ensure data governance and consistency across all integrated platforms, reducing reliance on stale exports and manual reporting.
Analytics & Reporting
- Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards for property performance, portfolio analytics, investment underwriting, and leadership reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data-driven narratives using visualization dashboards for internal asset operations and investor reporting.
- Conduct research and curate datasets from internal and external sources; derive actionable insights to inform leasing, acquisitions, and capital planning decisions.
- Provide financial analysis support across business units including investments, asset management, and accounting.
- Translate complex data into clear, strategic insights that drive informed business strategies for senior leadership.
AI Data Layer & Model Integration
- Serve as the data infrastructure owner for AI initiatives including Ask Bulfinch, automated deal memos, lease abstraction, and email triage—ensuring AI models have access to clean, well-structured Bulfinch data.
- Integrate Azure OpenAI and/or Claude API with the firm’s data layer, enabling AI tools to query and reason over live portfolio information.
- Collaborate with the external AI Strategist and AI Steering Committee on data requirements for new AI tool builds and model deployments.
- Support Dataverse implementation for structured CRM-style records, deal tracking, and Power Apps integrations where applicable.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Facilitate data capture through internal systems, enabling business owners across acquisitions, accounting, property management, and leasing to harness available information effectively.
- Work closely with the IT Specialist on M365 administration, system access, security, and infrastructure to ensure a stable, secure data environment.
- Support and actively contribute to Bulfinch’s AI Steering Committee, providing data infrastructure input on governance, initiative prioritization, and adoption best practices.
- Collaborate with IT Specialist on technology vendor coordination and data providers including Yardi, Argus, Juniper Square, and Chatham.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 3–5 years of professional experience in data engineering, data analytics, or a related field—ideally within commercial real estate, PropTech, finance, or a data-intensive industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft database management tools including Fabric, Azure SQL, and OneLake; hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines across multiple source systems.
- Strong command of SQL, Excel, and VBA for data transformation, querying, and automation.
- Demonstrated experience with Power BI or Tableau for dashboard development and enterprise reporting.
- Experience analyzing large, complex datasets with a focus on structure, integrity, and scalability.
- Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to translate complex data concepts for non-technical stakeholders across acquisitions, accounting, and property management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Analytics, Data Science, or a related field.
Preferred
- Microsoft Certified: Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700) certification
- Proficiency in Python, R, or similar data-centric programming languages.
- Experience with relational databases and REST APIs for integrating third-party platforms.
- Hands-on experience with Azure OpenAI, Claude API, or other LLM integrations for AI-powered applications.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dataverse and Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate).
- Experience with CRE platforms such as Yardi, Argus, Juniper Square, MRI, or Chatham.
- Basic understanding of accounting processes and familiarity with private equity, investment risk, or capital markets.
- Working knowledge of commercial real estate fundamentals—asset classes, leasing, asset management, or investment underwriting.
- Exposure to the PropTech landscape (VTS, Measurabl, CoStar, Placer.ai, etc.).
- Graduate degree (MS in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field) a plus.
