Job Summary
We are a Commercial Design-Build firm seeking an Assistant Controller to provide financial leadership and oversight across the organization. This role is responsible for financial reporting and analysis, project management support, compliance, and internal controls, with a strong emphasis on construction accounting and project profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
- Oversee all accounting functions, including budgeting, financial reporting, cost analysis, and project profitability tracking
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/) and applicable industry regulations
- Manage and monitor cash flow to ensure adequate funding for ongoing projects
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure financial and project performance
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) for senior management
- Conduct cost analysis and provide recommendations for cost-saving initiatives
- Monitor construction contracts, job costs, and change orders
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
Project Management Support
- Collaborate closely with project managers to track expenses and maintain budgets
- Manage the AIA billing process
- Provide financial guidance and insights to project teams
- Participate in project meetings to support financial decision-making
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with construction accounting standards and regulations
- Implement and maintain strong internal financial controls and procedures
- Conduct subcontractor prequalification reviews
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (required)
- 3 years of construction accounting experience (preferred)
- Strong understanding of job costing and construction financial processes
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
