General Definition of Work

The Electronics Technician II, under general supervision, performs skill-based work with minimal decision-making discretion performing technical duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic, audiovisual, and computer equipment.  Position is responsible for the functionality of operating systems such as fire and security systems across the district.  Employee performs both school-based and district-level work to carry-out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Supervisor, Maintenance Operations I.

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

 

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure electrical codes are observed and appropriate materials are utilized throughout electronic systems
  • Install, diagnose, and inspect electronics and electronics systems utilizing specifications, diagrams, drawings, and verbal/written directions
  • Repair and maintain electronic and audiovisual equipment including but not limited to cameras, radios, and other electronic devices
  • Install, maintain, and repair fire alarms, bells, clocks, closed-circuit television systems, intercom systems, public address systems, lighting circuits, etc.
  • Install and manage building cables and wiring, splicing as deemed appropriate
  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies in assigned vehicle
  • Maintain records and prepare reports on installations, repairs, and services performed
  • Design and build testing and specialty equipment not available commercially
  • Accurately maintain and organize records as required; document work order request with appropriate information regarding time, materials, and resolution
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, such as school administrators, regarding work order requests, preventative maintenance and electrical safety
  • Safely operate a district fleet vehicle to travel to assigned job sites, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and company driving policies
  • Maintain the vehicle in clean, orderly, and serviceable condition, promptly reporting any maintenance needs, damage, or safety concerns
  • Perform related work as assigned or required

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of the full range of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the electronic maintenance and repair of school system electronic equipment
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic theories and practices
  • Knowledge of proper use and care of tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of safe work practices
  • Skilled in the use of audiovisual, electronic, and computer equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, audio frequency generators, capacity testers and soldering irons
  • Skilled in interpreting schematic drawings, blueprints and specifications
  • Skilled in clear and concise communication, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to perform maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electronics equipment
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of electronics repair and maintenance tools and equipment
  • Ability to diagnose defects in audiovisual, electronic, and computer equipment and make skillful repairs
  • Ability to read schematic and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to estimate time and materials costs
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

 

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of electronics work experience required
  • Trade school or Community College courses in Electronics preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
