General Definition of Work
The HVAC control specialist, under general supervision, performs skill-based work with minimal decision-making discretion related to the repair, evaluation, and operation of all HVAC equipment and systems in an assigned region of up to 15 schools. The HVAC control specialist is in contact with outside mechanical contractors, internal engineering staff, school administrators, and other CMS staff on a regular basis. Employee performs both school-based and district-level work to carry-out Board of Education policies under the direction of the HVAC Assistant Supervisor.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Respond to operational emergencies related to HVAC systems; troubleshoot issues to determine causes and implement solutions
- Calibrate, repair, or replace HVAC controls including electronic, pneumatic, or electric
- Assist in solving difficult and specialized technical HVAC system problems
- Operate the school system energy management equipment and repair as needed
- Assist state and local fire, safety, and insurance officials in conducting school system inspections, coordinate outside contractors for a variety of jobs
- Estimate materials and labor costs needed for special projects or new construction, write specifications, and order supplies
- Operate and maintain a variety of power equipment and hand tools used in the performance of HVAC repair and maintenance tasks
- Assist in the selection of renovation sites or equipment replacement; maintain records on service equipment
- Ensure HVAC compliance with health and safety standards
- Perform related work as assigned or required
