PURPOSE

Operates complex component saws to cut planks, timbers, or boards according to work orders by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reviews work order to determine cut(s) to be made.
  • Operate component saw with computer controlled touch screen.
  • Adjusts saw for required cuts.
  • Adjusts speed of saw and feed rolls.
  • Observes automatic feeding of lumber to saw or pushes end of lumber into feed rolls.
  • Coordinates multiple activities associated with saw operations including picking, staging, stacking and loading.
  • Advises supervisor of dull saw blades.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Other Skills And Abilities

Must be able to identify species, size, and grade of lumber.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
