Our Community Day Services:
- This is our 100% community-based day program serving adults with developmental disabilities. This program focuses on pre-vocational skills, safe use of public transportation, social skills practice, and exploration of individual interests.
As a Community Guide, you will be responsible for:
- Meeting participants at a community hub each morning, and facilitating the scheduled activities for the day, including the use of public transportation.
- Providing opportunities for the participants to develop socialization/interpersonal communication skills and practice self-regulation/coping techniques.
- Providing hands-on training, observation, and evaluation of the participant's pre-vocational skills, and finding educational opportunities or classes to assist with further development.
- Advocating for participants' inclusion in the community and empowering them to exercise their rights.
- Using BuildAbility’s digital program to log the individual’s progress and performance.
Schedule:
- Part-time (27 hours a week)
- Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Compensation:
- Starting at $19.00 - $22.00/hour (depending on prior experience and qualifications)

Required Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with individuals with disabilities, their family members, employers, and others in a positive and constructive manner.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must pass a DOJ Live Scan fingerprinting background clearance.
- Proof of a passing physical exam and TB clearance.
- Valid California Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluent in Spanish.
- Cultural awareness and adaptability.
- Familiarity with the Los Angeles Metro system (MetroGo app, route planning, etc.).
- Crisis management skills.
- Prior experience supporting individuals with disabilities. If you don’t have experience, we will provide on-the-job training. Some of our best staff did not have experience prior to being hired at BuildAbility!
