Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable, hardworking Ground Worker to support daily tree service operations. Ground Worker assists climbers and equipment operators, manages ground‑level workflow, and ensures safe, efficient job‑site operations. This is a physically demanding outdoor position with opportunities for advancement into climbing, equipment operation, or plant health care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist climbers and crew leaders with ropes, rigging, and lowering operations
- Drag, chip, and process brush, limbs, and logs
- Operate ground‑based equipment (chippers, chainsaws, blowers, stump grinders) after training
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard‑free job site
- Load/unload tools, gear, and equipment at the shop and job sites
- Perform basic equipment inspections and report issues
- Support traffic control when required
- Follow all safety protocols and crew leader instructions
- Participate in storm‑response or emergency work when needed
Qualifications
Required
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift 50–75 lbs repeatedly
- Strong work ethic and reliable attendance
- Willingness to learn ropes, rigging, and equipment operation
- Ability to work safely around moving equipment and falling debris
- Team‑oriented communication skills
Preferred
- Experience in tree service, landscaping, forestry, or outdoor labor
- Basic chainsaw knowledge
- Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus)
- Mechanical aptitude or equipment experience
Safety Requirements
- PPE required at all times (helmet, eye/ear protection, gloves, boots, chaps when applicable)
- Compliance with ANSI Z133 and OSHA safety standards
- Participation in safety meetings and training
- Immediate reporting of hazards, near‑misses, or equipment issues
Work Environment
- Outdoor work in heat, cold, rain, snow, and uneven terrain
- Exposure to loud equipment, wood dust, and falling debris
- Fast‑paced, team‑driven environment
Montana Employment Notice
This position may include a probationary period consistent with the Montana Wrongful Discharge from Employment Act (WDFEA). After probation, termination must meet good‑cause standards.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
