About the Position
Bug Off Tree Service is seeking an experienced and motivated Tree Health Technician to join our growing team. This position focuses on tree health diagnostics, plant healthcare, customer education, and treatment recommendations for residential and commercial properties throughout the Bitterroot Valley.
We are looking for someone with real-world experience in arboriculture, landscaping, forestry, horticulture, plant healthcare, or a closely related industry. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, observant, professional with clients, and capable of identifying local tree species, insect issues, diseases, and environmental stress factors affecting tree health.
Primary Responsibilities
Identify common tree species native to and commonly planted in Western Montana
Diagnosing tree health issues including:
- Insect infestations
- Fungal diseases
- Environmental stress
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Root and soil-related issues
Perform or assist with:
- Deep root fertilization
- Soil treatments
- Insect and disease treatments
- Tree inspections and assessments
Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to customers
Document site conditions, treatments, and recommendations
Safely operate spray equipment, tanks, hoses, injection systems, and related tools
Assist with general arboriculture operations when needed
Maintain professional appearance and customer service standards
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in:
- Arboriculture
- Tree care
- Forestry
- Landscaping
- Plant healthcare
- Agriculture or horticulture
Ability to identify most common trees in the Bitterroot Valley and surrounding areas
Knowledge of common tree pests and diseases in Montana
Ability to recognize signs of:
- Bark beetles
- Aphids
- Borers
- Needle cast
- Cankers
- Root rot
- Chlorosis
- Drought stress
Experience with pesticide application or plant healthcare treatments preferred
ISA Certified Arborist certification is a plus, but not required
Montana pesticide applicator license is a plus, but not required
Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on uneven terrain

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 – 45.0 per week
