Job Description
Job Title: Assistant High School Cheer Coach
Supervisor: Athletics Director

Job Summary
Provides assistance in developing and maintaining a high-quality Cheer program that promotes school spirit. Supports each participating student in achieving a higher level of skill, an enhanced appreciation for the values of discipline and teamwork, and an increased level of self-esteem.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists with planning and organizing the high school cheer program.
• Assists with equipment inventory.
• Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
• Assesses skills and helps assign team positions.
• Assist in scheduling and conducting practices throughout the year.
• Assists with teaching the fundamentals of the sport in a manner that provides opportunities for all athletes to learn and improve.
• Assists with teaching precautions and procedures to ensure staff/student safety and help students prevent injuries. Promptly reports any injuries to the Athletic Trainer.
• Assists with coaching individual participants, small groups, and the squad, as appropriate, in the skills necessary for achievement in the sport.
• Assists with refining routines.
• Models good sportsmanship behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
• Participates in opportunities to maintain and enhance professional competence in respective sport.
• Assists with instructing students of the rules, regulations, equipment, fundamentals and techniques of the sport.
• Full supervision of athletes during practices, travel and competition.
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Supports multi-sport participation of student-athletes.

Other Duties

• Attends required coaches' meetings and fulfills all necessary requirements which include rSchool coach's registration, CHSAA coaches test, concussion training and First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• Attends clinics and other professional activities to enhance coaching skills.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
Some experience as a head or assistant cheer coach at the high school or college level preferred. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
