The job
This is a hands-on accounting job at a growing company. You'd own the books and the monthly close across a few related businesses, work next to a staff accountant, and report straight to me.
There's no bureaucracy here. You own your work from day one. You'd also have a real say in how we build out the accounting function as we grow.
This is an in-person role at our office in Verona, WI.
About us
We're the largest and top-performing Budget Blinds franchise in the country, with almost 20 years in business across Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. We sell and install window coverings for homes and businesses. We also own Harmony Flooring.
What you'd do
Financial reporting and close
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close across all entities
- Prepare financial statements for each entity and on a consolidated basis
- Maintain the general ledger and keep us consistent with GAAP
- Handle intercompany entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and fixed assets
Accounting operations
- Oversee AP, AR, and the general ledger, and step into the day-to-day work when needed
- Watch cash flow and reconcile the bank and credit card accounts
- Review the sales and use tax filings across Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin
- Handle commissions, merchant deposits, expense reports, and year-end 1099s
Team and process
- Review, train, and develop the staff accountant
- Write down our procedures and keep clean SOPs
- Run QuickBooks across all entities and cut manual work with automation
Budgeting, controls, and compliance
- Support the budget, variance analysis, and KPI reporting
- Keep solid internal controls and audit-ready records
- Work with our outside CPAs, tax preparers, and auditors
What I'm looking for
- A degree in accounting or finance, or equal experience
- 5 years in accounting, including the monthly close and financial statements
- Solid GAAP knowledge
- Hands-on QuickBooks experience
- Experience reviewing or supervising other accounting staff, or ready to grow into it
- Strong Excel skills and sharp attention to detail
- Someone who likes a small-business setting and owns the details
- Multi-entity or multi-state experience is a plus
