Summary
The Inventory Control & Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for managing all material movement and inventory control activities within Buck Knives. This role oversees receiving, raw material storage, work-in-process tracking, and finished goods inventory. The supervisor ensures accurate material availability for production, maintains a well-organized warehouse, and drives compliance with safety, quality, and manufacturing standards. This position leads a warehouse team and partners closely with Production, Purchasing, Shipping, Planning, and Quality Assurance.
- ERP/MRP and Warehouse Management experience required for this position.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Material Control
- Manage inventory for raw materials, components, consumables, WIP, and finished goods.
- Ensure accurate and timely material transactions in the MRP system (issues, returns, transfers, consumption, adjustments).
- Coordinate and oversee cycle counts and annual physical inventory audits; investigate variances and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels to support production schedules while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
- Collaborate with Production Planning to ensure correct material staging, kitting, and replenishment.
Warehouse & Material Handling Operations
- Supervise daily operations including receiving, put-away, picking, staging, kitting, shipping, and internal material transfers.
- Ensure incoming materials meet documentation and quality requirements (BOLs, COAs, packing lists, inspection holds, etc.).
- Maintain organized storage areas with proper labeling, FIFO adherence, and 5S standards.
- Optimize warehouse layout, material flow, and space utilization for efficiency and safety.
- Oversee maintenance of forklifts, pallet jacks, racking, and other equipment.
Manufacturing Support
- Ensure accurate material delivery to production lines according to parts requests and production schedules.
- Coordinate timely removal and return of unused materials from production.
- Partner with Quality and Engineering to quarantine, segregate, or disposition nonconforming materials.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, train, and mentor warehouse and inventory team members.
- Set daily priorities and coordinate staffing to meet production demands.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain and enforce SOPs, work instructions, and warehouse policies.
Reporting & Metrics
- Track and report KPIs such as inventory accuracy and cycle counting accuracy.
- Analyze trends and recommend improvements to reduce costs, labor hours, and inventory discrepancies.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5 years of warehouse or inventory control experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 2 years of supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing material flow, BOMs, WIP tracking, and inventory control methods.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems.
- Forklift certification or ability to become certified.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and implement process improvements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfort working in a warehouse and manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment safely.
- On-site manufacturing and warehouse setting.
- May require occasional overtime or support during inventory counts, shutdowns, or peak production periods.
