Summary:  Serves as a resource for engineering leadership in achieving site objectives for safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and continuous improvement. Resolves questions or concerns regarding individual part processes. Improves current processes and conducts investigations to reduce inefficiencies.

Promptly reports injuries for prompt diagnosis and treatment. 3) Makes regular suggestions for safety process improvements to support continuous improvement in safety. 

 Essential Functions:   

The co-op or intern supports operations by working with the Engineering team to learn through:   

  1. Direction from department leadership and engineers to complete tasks for multiple projects.  
  2. Assisting to justify, design, build, test, install, and operate automated manufacturing systems.  
  3. Designing and detailing of items within a project with the use of 2-D CAD and/or 3-D CAD software. 
  4. Writing and editing robotic or PLC programs needed to produce parts for the project or customer. 
  5. Identify and eliminate safety and quality risks and root causes.  
  6. Utilizing time studies or pre-determined timing methods such as MTM or MOST to validate setup and run times. 
  7. Assisting with lean manufacturing initiatives and product flow improvements. 
  8. Evaluating historical data on run rates to determine accuracy. 
  9. Assisting in creation and evaluation of cost reductions. 
  10. Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  High school diploma or equivalent required.  Must be enrolled in a Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics/Automation, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering program at a two or four year college or university, progressing toward a degree. 

Experience and Skills Required: 

  1. Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and cause prevention (error proofing) skills. 
  2. Ability to work independently and show strong initiative and ownership of ideas and projects. 
  3. Strong computer skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  4. CAD (Solid Works) experience is beneficial. 
  5. Prior manufacturing, especially fabrication and welding, experience is beneficial.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use of hands and fingers to, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 

Work Environment: The position has good working conditions in general but is a diversified job requiring sustained mental effort related to organizational issues, planning and technical areas. The individual may encounter moderate emotional strain or tension.  There is sustained exposure to sitting. There is also moderate exposure to Video Data Terminals (VDTs) and moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds). 

Compensation Salary Range: OTC4 $18.67 - $26.12 per hour. The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike.  Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth.  The range provided above does not include additional compensation such as bonus, health benefits, vacation, 401(k) match, etc.
