IT Systems Engineer I (CONTRACT to HIRE)

Summary of Duties & Responsibilities
The IT Systems Engineer I is an entry level Information Technology position. The position uses established procedures and works under immediate supervision. The IT Systems Engineer 1 will assist other Engineers in maintaining the corporate local area network (LAN) environment and providing end user technical support for desktops, applications, servers, and general LAN problems. An additional emphasis will be placed on technical training, understanding customer service in a corporate environment and general BST processes.
Essential Functions
- Provides first level support for end user issues related to the enterprise desktop and network environment.
- Using established procedures, installs, tests, and configures desktop and server operating system environments.
- Using established procedures, install, tests and configures data and voice network infrastructure (Network specialty only).
- Using established procedures, maintain and track software and hardware asset information for the organization.
- Develops end user FAQ style documentation for general IT support and questions.
- Using established procedures, maintain the peripherals, such as printers and video display equipment that are connected to the network.
- Assists in the assignment, management and deletion of user accounts, groups, and systems in a Windows Active Directory environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Skills & Competencies
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems such as Windows 10
- Hands on experience supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing Intel based desktop and server hardware (PC Support).
- Understanding of network utilities and services such as DNS, DHCP, TCPIP, TELNET, RDP, WINS.
- Understanding of remote access technologies such as VPN, SSL, Remote Desktop, and its authentication techniques.
- Customer service oriented, good communication skills, considerate, cooperative and the ability to interact with a wide variety of personalities at all corporate levels.

Education or Prior Work Experience
- A.S. in Computer Science or other technology related field; Bachelor's degree desirable.
- 1-3 years’ industry experience or experience in an academic environment supporting Windows based infrastructure such as PC’s, Servers, and network related peripherals
Specialized Licenses or Certifications
- Microsoft Windows Server or Windows Desktop Product Certifications (MCP), desirable.
- CompTIA Network certification or Cisco CCENT certifications (Network Specialty only), desirable.
