Position Overview: The Director, Athletic Communications leads all athletic communications for Bryn Mawr College’s 12 intercollegiate sports through generating creative video/digital content, media relations, press releases, website and other print and electronic media. In addition, the director works with all head coaches to develop strategies to market and promote Bryn Mawr College Athletics and each team. The position demands initiative, creativity and the ability to work with a variety of different constituents. Athletic Communication Director provides leadership in marketing, branding, and creative contents and manages all aspects of gameday operations. This position requires night and weekend work.

Position Responsibilities

  • Directs all athletics communications, including news releases, features, gameday operations, statistics collection and management, publications, photography, social media, and creative content.
  • Gameday operations management includes live stream broadcast, commentating of play, scoreboard operation, hiring and managing student workers, social media coverage, and training ball runners for soccer and field hockey.
  • Statistics, collection and management: historical and gameday.
  • Serve as athletics communication liaison with the NCAA, Collegiate Sports Communicators (CSC) and Centennial Conference.
  • Communicates with external constituents including the NCAA, Centennial Conference, media outlets, and professional sports photographers.
  • Manages the athletics website (gobrynmawr.com) and all social media platforms.
  • Facilitates connections with outside constituents including website, live streaming, etc.
  • Leads athletics branding and marketing.
  • Mascot management in collaboration with Communications and Marketing.
  • Responsible for athletic department’s compliance with all LITS policies and security with respect to website and social media.
  • Supervision of athletic communications student workers.
  • Supervision of Assistant Athletic Communications Director (10-month position).
  • Department liaison to campus marketing and communications. Collaborates with College Communications, Alumnae/i Relations and Development, and other campus constituents.
  • Communicate regularly with College Communications regarding athletic news, achievements, and events for inclusion in campus news releases.
  • Collaborate on various upcoming projects with College Communications to ensure consistent and accurate representation of the Athletics Department across college-wide communications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

This full-time staff position has an anticipated schedule of 35 hours per week and is eligible for 22 days of vacation per year, three days personal leave, generous holiday time (including an extended winter break between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day), sick leave, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, medical, dental, and vision, retirement, paid parental leave, tuition opportunities, and more. While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences and characteristics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three (3) years of experience within athletic communications is required.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification is preferred.
  • Highly preferred: A savvy social media content creator. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Creative Cloud, and photo and video editing software.
  • Knowledge of in-game statistical software (such as Stat Crew, PrestoStats, and NCAA LiveStats).
  • Excellent in organizational and interpersonal skills, possess strong attention to details, and the ability to manage multiple projects in an effective and timely manner. Skilled in communication both verbal and written.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and proficiency in graphic design, recording and editing video.
  • Able to relate and work with other campus stakeholders.
  • Able to exercise sound judgement, confidentiality, and work independently.
  • Some lifting, carrying of equipment, and walking required. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to work outside of a variety of weather conditions.
