We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help lead the development of innovative consumer electronics products from concept through mass production. This in-person role is based at Bryght Labs’ innovation lab and design studio in Lenexa, Kansas, and is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, highly collaborative environment and brings deep experience engineering thoughtful, high-quality hardware.
What you’ll do
- Lead mechanical engineering for consumer electronics products from early concept through production
- Design and develop robust, manufacturable parts, assemblies, and mechanisms
- Own CAD development, part architecture, tolerance analysis, and mechanical stack-ups
- Drive design for manufacturability, design for assembly, cost optimization, and reliability
- Partner closely with industrial design, electrical engineering, firmware, product management, and operations to create highly integrated products
- Contribute to electro-mechanical architecture and help solve complex integration challenges across hardware systems
- Prototype, test, and refine concepts quickly through iterative development
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to support tooling, pilot builds, validation, and production ramp
- Investigate failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Help define engineering standards, best practices, and documentation for future product development
- Provide technical leadership across mechanical development and help elevate engineering best practices across the team
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 7 years of mechanical engineering experience, with significant experience in consumer electronics
- Proven track record of shipping physical consumer products to market at production scale
- Strong 3D CAD skills and experience designing complex assemblies and plastic parts in SolidWorks
- Experience with electro-mechanical design and integration
- Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, elastomers, and cosmetic part design
- Strong understanding of tolerance analysis, fit and finish, reliability, and environmental considerations
- Experience working directly with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and overseas production partners
- Experience supporting engineering validation, design validation, production validation, and production ramp
- Strong hands-on prototyping and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines
- High attention to detail and a strong sense of product quality
Bonus points
- Experience with products that combine mechanics, electronics, displays, lighting, batteries, sensors, and embedded systems
- Experience with premium consumer products where fit, finish, and user interaction matter deeply
- Familiarity with test methods, reliability validation, and failure analysis for consumer hardware
- Experience in mechanism design for interactive products
- Interest in chess or active experience playing chess as a hobby
