Custodian (Shift to be Determined)

The Custodian is accountable for maintaining an assigned area of University buildings at an acceptable level of cleanliness. There are currently multiple openings, and the shift is to be determined.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, wet mopping, scrubbing, waxing/stripping, vacuuming, emptying trash containers, moving furniture; shoveling snow from steps and sidewalks which adjoin his/her assigned space; cleaning bathrooms, walls, ceilings, etc.; performing manual labor required to reach and maintain an acceptable University standard of cleanliness within an assigned area; and, as directed, changing light bulbs and minor painting; assisting maintenance personnel to load and/or unload trucks, performing heavy duty tasks cooperatively with other maintenance department personnel; may assist with event setups upon request; and performing other related duties as assigned.

This position is best served by an individual with one year successful experience in custodial services and requires the physical ability to lift, push, pull, and incur uncomfortable positions such as stooping, bending, kneeling, standing and stretching for extended periods of time. The ability to read, write and understand directions (i.e., labels on cleaning materials regarding precautions, work orders, etc.) is required. This position is subject to the successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination, criminal background check and division of motor vehicles check.
