Bryant Park Corporation and 34th Street Partnership seek a 30-to-40-hour-a-week paid intern to join the Visitor Services Department staff. The two companies are award-winning not-for-profit Business Improvement Districts which share staff and offices, and a mission to improve the quality of the commercial, physical, and public space environments in each of their midtown Manhattan districts.
Ideal candidate understands tight deadlines, is equally effective working independently and with groups, and are comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously. The successful candidate is expected to take on our mission quickly, be comfortable working non-traditional hours, and be confident in managing relationships and onsite events.
The Kids and Cultural Events and Amenities intern, shortened to Visitor Services Intern, reports to the Deputy Director of Visitor Services. Office hours are typically 9am – 5:30pm, Monday - Friday. Due to the nature of event planning and operations, hours will often go beyond weekday hours to include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Applicants must be available to work from mid-May through September.
The position is full-time with hourly pay. The successful candidate can expect a schedule of approximately 30 to 40 hours per week.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience working in a fast-paced environment dedicated to making New York City safer, cleaner, and more engaging. Interns can expect to take on real responsibilities and acquire practical knowledge about event management and retail. Applicants can expect to work closely with executive staff and park staff and develop a network of contacts in related industries.
Responsibilities:
· Assist in coordinating and executing cultural and children’s events
· Represent the park's values
· Assist in promotion related to events and venue hosting
· Work extensively outdoors, interacting with park staff and event producers
· Researching new events and activities that may be held in our kid-friendly spaces and/or cultural spaces
· Liaison during reserved private events
· Assist with daily operations
Qualifications:
· Responsible, trustworthy, mature, proactive, and outgoing
· College graduate or in senior yr. of bachelor’s program
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office
· Able to look at situations creatively
· Strong Writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
· Possess a “no job too small” attitude
· Ability to take direction, but also adapt to changing situations as needed
