OR Assistant

Operating Room Assistants are responsible for keeping KRMC safe, clean, disinfected and well maintained in compliance with federal, state, and local health codes and regulations. Responsible for disinfecting the following areas; operation rooms, sub sterile rooms, supply rooms, sterile processing, cath lab, and corridors. Other duties include; stocking, setting up case carts, assisting with turnovers, and other miscellaneous tasks delegated by the Operating Room Staff.

• Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner to reflect the highest integrity of the Operating Room Department.
• Terminally cleans operating rooms, cath labs, sterile processing, and sub sterile rooms.
• Cycle cleans equipment rooms, supply rooms, corridors, and housekeeping closets.
• Initiates and promotes quality improvement, seeking to meet, and exceed, customer expectations.
• Demonstrates proper hand washing and/or sanitizing following KRMC policy and procedures.
• Assists the engineering department by notifying them of any repairs and submitting work orders that need attention in the KRMC facility.
• Follows directions, both verbal and written, including but not limited to infection control, environmental services, surgical services, biohazard policies, and mixing of cleaning products.
• Maintains routine records of all duties performed/areas cleaned and any problems that may arise.
• Performs manual duties as requested (i.e., moving supplies or furniture, replacing light bulbs, removing trash or scrap material).
• Ability to do work on his/her own with only normal supervision.
• A working knowledge of department policies in order to help train and orient new employees.
• A thorough knowledge of how to use and maintain cleaning tools and equipment.
• Knowledge and observance of safety precautions.
• Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality
• Obtains supplies and instruments using a preprinted list to assemble case carts for the surgical procedures.
• Return supplies not used for the procedures to the correct supply room
• Perform miscellaneous duties assigned by the Operating Room Staff including bringing specimens to lab, running for instruments, and running for supplies.
• Assist Operating Room Staff in stocking operating rooms, cast cart, and corridors.
• Assist Operating Room Staff on checking outdates throughout the department
• Assist Operating Room Staff with stocking the blankets and fluids in warmers
• Assist Operating Room Staff with case turnovers, including cleaning, equipment, and supplies.
• Work closely and communicate with Environmental Services on daily cleaning tasks, cycle cleaning, cleaning equipment, and cleaning supplies.
• Communicate with Supply Chain Staff on inventory items.
• Stocks anesthesia carts daily and in between cases when needed.
• Clean and turnover anesthesia machine between patients.
• Use computer to view surgery schedule and print physician preference cards.
• Reports any concerns and/or problems to the management of the OR.

Regulatory Requirements:

• High School graduate or equivalent.
