Essential Functions

1. Participates in the admission of new patients by conducting intake assessments through interviews with patients, and patients’ proxies, to gather case history.
2. Analyzes the data collected and identifies a wide range of relevant patient problems and nursing diagnoses. 
3. Identifies nursing interventions, and expected patient outcomes, designed to resolve detected diagnoses.

1. Plans alternatives for solving patient problems with the patient and patient’s healthcare team.
2. Demonstrates clinical assignments to staff and provides necessary direction in accordance with clinical competencies, educational preparation, application licensing laws and regulations, patient requirements for nursing care and the nursing care delivery model. 
3. Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team attending medication rounds.

1. Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff and patients. 
2. Test for vital signs of pain and ensures treatments of pain. 
3. Documents all patient information on medical charts and follows physician’s written orders. 
4. Maintains patient confidentiality. 
5. Arranges further medical attention when necessary.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does have supervisory responsibilities of LPN’s and Psych Aides in his/her respective unit.

Work Environment

This job operates in a psychiatric health care setting; which requires regular walking to various locations around the hospital. The incumbent will be intervening with psychiatric patients who may be unruly at times. 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping all day. The employee must frequently lift or move items weighing over 20 pounds. An annual satisfactory health assessment is required, including tuberculosis screening. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required. 

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

1. Associates degree in Nursing.
2. Recent nursing experience with at least 1 year-experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
2. Nursing experience in a psychiatric, or related, facility.
3. Knowledge of PMCS (Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations), preferred.

Education Responsibilities

1. Completes mandatory in-service requirements in a timely manner and within the department’s specified time frame.
2. Maintains up to date knowledge of departmental and hospital policies, procedures, protocols, standards, JCAHO, as well as federal, state, and local agency standards (i.e. JC, OMH, CMS).

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

1. State License as a Registered Nurse. 
2. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
