What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Risk Manager (Nurse) position at Brunswick Hospital Center?
The Patient risk manager is responsible for patient care, the risk management program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management educational programs, and complying with the Joint Commission’s risk management standards. This individual participates in formulating policy or organizational changes but must seek advice and approval from executive leadership.
- Patient Safety and Quality: Lead and support initiatives to improve patient safety and clinical quality, Identifying and assessing areas of risk and developing corrective action plans.
- Incident Reporting: overseas incident reporting processes related to clinical care, ensuring investigation, documentation, and resolution of patient safety issues, adverse events and near misses.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments, focusing on some areas such as patient care, protocols, patient safety, infection control, medical necessity, and clinical documentation.
- Data Evaluation: Analyze data on patient outcomes, clinical performance, and adverse events to identify trends and potential risk areas.
- Risk Monitoring: Develop and maintain incident reporting system/registers to track and monitor identified risk.
- Policy & Procedure Development: Participate in development, review, and implementation of clinical policies and procedures and protocols to embed risk mitigation strategies and ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory requirements. This includes a focus on standardizing care processes to optimize patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Risk Management: Monitor adherence to established clinical safety policies procedures and protocols, ensuring staff compliance and intervening as necessary to mitigate identified risk and ensure timely completion of critical patient care action (e.g., diagnostic follow-ups treatment. plans).
- Articulates in Performance Improvement activities such as root Cause Analysis or Healthcare Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (HFMEA) when appropriate and required.
- Maintains risk management information system database.
- Collaborate with quality staff to support ongoing regulatory compliance and management of on-site regulatory/accreditation visit and after-action planning/implementation and reporting.
- Function as a resource person to staff on risk management and nursing education.
- Keep abreast of appropriate regulatory requirements related to risk management.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Quality assurance: Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure adherence to quality standards set by accrediting bodies (e.g., Joint Commission).
- Quality Metrics: Monitor and report on key performance indicators related to clinical processes and outcomes.
- Quality Improvement: Coordinate with various departments to implement quality improvement projects.
COLLABORATION AND LEADERSHIP
- Internal audits: Conduct internal audits of clinical processes and patient care protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Reporting: provide reports to executive leadership on compliance and risk management initiatives.
- Expect to work flexible hours to participate in staff interviews, risk management and patients’ safety events, debriefs and meetings as needed.
- Assist in developing and presenting educational programs to raise staff, including staff on off- hours shifts, individual nursing education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QULIFICATION
- Bachelors’ degree or Masters’ degree in nursing.
- Current New York State License as a Registered Professional Nurse or other Licensed/Certified Clinical professional.
- 3 years risk management experience (greater than 3 years preferred).
- Knowledge Clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience and/or patient satisfaction and performance measure and indicators.
- Both RN & LPN may be qualified depending on the experience.
Salary : $70,000 - $90,000
