Brunel has an exciting opportunity for a Project Portfolio Planner/Scheduler Manager (Contract) with our client who is a leading mining company in Arizona.
This contract position will work in New Orleans, Louisiana, if not local to the area we will provide accommodations with a 4-week on-site/1-week at home not working rotational schedule. Travel accommodations, housing, transportation, and a monthly stipend will be included.
Manages and directs a portfolio of project planning resources within the project controls functional group for capital projects. Responsible for ensuring all aspects of project planning and scheduling on projects are compliant with corporate procedures. Will retain the ownership and maintenance of planning policies and procedures which enforce the planning guidelines while mitigating schedule risk. Provides mentorship and guidance to project teams. Provides strategic guidance as an expert on planning and scheduling for engineering, procurement, contract and construction field concepts, practices, and procedures. Provides expert level experience and judgment to spearhead in-depth analysis of all aspects of project schedules.
Essential Functions:
- Analyzes and drives resolutions to complex execution and project planning issues. Utilizes expert analytical skills to review project plans to identify and provide leadership in resolving project risk at a corporate level.
- Collaborates with various levels of management to provide direction in the development of project execution planning. Reviews project schedules to ensure strategic alignment with execution planning.
- Ensures quality baseline schedule requirements are met and communicates risks, concerns, and solutions to management.
- Establish new planning procedures and guidelines as required. Reviews and updates existing planning procedures and guidelines. Ensures all planning is conducted in accordance with company standards and procedures and that scheduled version control processes, policies, and procedures are followed.
- Proactively mentors and acts as a sounding board for problem resolution and leads the team of project planners and schedulers to excellence.
- Establishes and drives the organizational structure and hiring of strategic planning and scheduling resources.
- Assumes all P6 system configuration and licensing duties. Assesses and further develops corporate global / project security profiles and the EPS / OBS structures. Ensures the integrity of the corporate P6 cloud.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Job Scope:
- Nature of work: Resolves complex issues and is responsible for both lead and implement solutions. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity, latitude, and flexibility is required.
- Level of interaction: Frequently collaborates with senior management, project management and operational leadership.
- Autonomy/decision making: Works under limited to no supervision and has latitude to set objectives, priorities and timelines impacting the project controls team.
- Budgetary responsibility: Has limited budgetary responsibility.
- Managerial responsibility: Leads a division of planners and schedulers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, business or related field and fifteen (15) years of experience in industrial project planning (mining preferred) with at least ten (10) years of experience in project planning OR
- High School diploma or GED and twenty (20) years of experience in industrial project planning (mining preferred) with at least ten (10) years of experience in project planning
- Must be an expert user of Primavera P6 Scheduling software.
- Must have experience managing a portfolio of projects in varying stages.
- Possess excellent organizational skills.
- Possess good communication skills and the ability to train others.
Language Skills, Certifications and/or Training:
- Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of heavy industrial construction
- Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
- Skilled in effective communication, both verbal and written, including the ability to actively listen and to adapt behavior and communication style based upon the audience.
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Skill in following safety practices, and recognizing, controlling and/or eliminating hazards Ability to build trust and credibility with employees/peers and establish common goals and expectations.
- Strong analytical skills
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience with construction of metal mining operations, especially with regards all disciplines of construction.
- Experience with construction mega projects.
- Skilled in related scheduling software (Primavera, MS Project, etc.)
