We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Design Engineer to join a collaborative Engineering team in Sioux Falls, SD. This role is responsible for developing detailed engineering designs for manufactured products, machinery, and mechanical systems. The Design Engineer will play a key role in generating concepts, creating CAD models, and supporting the development of mechanical equipment from initial idea through prototyping and production.
The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams to ensure designs meet performance, quality, and manufacturability requirements. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to innovative mechanical solutions in a hands-on, team-oriented environment with exposure to customers and product development initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Generate, evaluate, and analyze design concepts utilizing a fact-based approach.
- Develop detailed models, drawings, and specifications for mechanical equipment, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.
- Prototype and test design concepts.
- Work with engineering and manufacturing team members and with customers to design and layout detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.
- Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment.
- Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
- Interface with customers and customer service representatives to assist with troubleshooting, plan for projects, and gather feedback.
- Layout, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or similar preferred (Associate’s degree with equivalent experience considered)
- Minimum 2 years of related design engineering experience preferred
- Proficiency with 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
- Experience with drafting and design for metal fabrication
- Familiarity with material handling equipment and grain systems considered an asset
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills for engineering calculations
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems preferred
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 5–10%)
