What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Analyst position at Brunel?
Brunel is hiring a Senior Cost Analyst to work with one of our Oil and Gas clients in Houston, TX on a long term contract.
Location - Onsite in West Houston (Westchase area)
Contract Duration - 1 year with potential to extend
Schedule - Hybrid (3 days in office / 2 days remote)
Requirements
- Perform monthly budget analysis, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and accruals.
- Review project actuals and provide variance analysis against forecasts.
- Track non-labor costs by Purchase Order and analyze spending trends.
- Develop and maintain monthly forecasts for project reporting.
- Support cost control and financial oversight of EPC contracts, including forecasting and approvals.
- Review EPC and third-party contractor invoices and complete required checklists.
- Support change order reviews with focus on cost and cash flow impacts.
- Coordinate with the Progress Team to track milestones, progress, and payment forecasts.
- Support milestone approval processes and present status in weekly project meetings.
- Input purchase requisitions and track project local spend.
- Coordinate with Accounting, Accounts Payable, Cash Management, and FP&A to support payments and cash calls.
- Maintain cost control tools and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide ad hoc cost analysis and support site cost-related activities as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in project cost control, cost analysis, or project controls roles.
- Experience developing and managing WBS, ETC, and EAC.
- Experience supporting EPC contracts and large capital projects.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and cost management systems.
- Solid understanding of project finance, cost control principles, and GAAP.
- Working knowledge of project scheduling and progress measurement concepts.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work cross-functionally.
