Brunel is recruiting Compressor Operators to work in Spring, TX with our major oil and gas client.
The Compressor Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of unit equipment and natural gas compression systems. The role includes continuous monitoring, minor maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting equipment surveillance.
The operator will use SCADA systems and the Ignition platform to monitor performance, detect issues, and respond based on technical knowledge.
Candidates with small-engine knowledge are encouraged, as this aids in equipment understanding and problem response.
Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor natural gas compressors, dehydration units, vapor recovery units, and related equipment.
- Use SCADA systems and the Ignition platform to monitor operating screens and interpret what is being observed.
- Adjust operating parameters to maintain proper pressure, flow, efficiency, and run time.
- Conduct routine inspections, collect readings, and identify irregularities in performance.
- Provide improved customer support by accurately interpreting equipment behavior.
- Perform minor maintenance and assist in repairs on compressors, small engines, and auxiliary systems.
- Identify mechanical or process issues; escalate issues to maintenance teams when required.
- Assist in troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems.
- Support equipment reliability through proactive observation and response.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental guidelines.
- Maintain adherence to operational standards and compliance requirements.
- Wear PPE and work safely in all weather and field environments.
- Maintain clear and accurate logs of operating data, inspections, maintenance activities, and safety checks.
- Report malfunctioning equipment, operational deviations, or safety concerns.
- Utilize digital reporting systems and tools for data entry and documentation.
Qualifications:
- 2–5 years of experience in gas compression, VRU operations, oil and gas field operations, or industrial maintenance.
- Experience with rotating equipment, small engines, instrumentation, and process controls.
- Knowledge of equipment surveillance and control room operations is beneficial.
Education & Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, H2S Awareness, First Aid/CPR, or DOT OQ are considered a plus.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and understand P&IDs, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and HMI platforms (Ignition platform experience preferred).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interpret equipment behavior.
- Ability to work independently and respond quickly to operational issues.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- 14/14 rotational schedule.
- Field-based role with exposure to changing weather and remote locations.
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, bending, and extended standing.
- Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
