Position Title: Bike/Summer Mountain Patroller
Reports To: Director of Patrol
Employment Status: Summer FT/PT
Job Summary:
Patrol is responsible for performing guest service functions such as accident handling, administering first aid, trail maintenance, signage, promoting and creating a safe environment for guests and employees, duty station responsibilities, event medical staff, equipment maintenance, search and rescue support, trail checks/mountain sweeps, lift evacuation, and weather closures. Each task requires a high level of decision-making.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist on the mountain with directions, guidance, and general guest services
- Assisting injured guests on the mountain and administering first aid (at the level certified)
- Requesting a higher level of medical care if appropriate
- Transporting injured guests off the mountain using a wheeled litter, UTV, on foot, and/or supporting air ambulance operations
- Transporting injured guest via resort ambulance to the emergency room
- Performing daily trail checks and performing sweeps at the end of the day to ensure that all guests are safely off the mountain
- Installing and maintaining trail markings and safety signage
- Trail maintenance including marking and mitigating hazards to the public
- Transporting and setting up mountain safety equipment
- Transporting supplies and equipment to areas of need
- Driving company vehicles including trucks or UTV’s to various areas of the mountain, as needed, if approved
- Chairlift evacuation
- Coordinate Helicopter LZ if certified
- Perform as mountain radio dispatch
- Event medical staff
- Work as a team to assist other summer departments as needed
- Promoting employee and guest safety through education and enforcement of safety and Resort Policies
- Ability to follow patrol policies
- Ability to reason and deal with emergency situations performing under high stress
Job Qualifications:
- Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) Certification, Wilderness First Responder
- Must be capable of riding, hiking or a combination of hiking/bike all types of terrain in all weather conditions
- Must be able to work in inclement weather in a high alpine environment
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy loads over long distances on uneven natural terrain
- Must use manual dexterity to operate equipment
- Must have sight, speech and hearing abilities sufficient to learn skills, follow and provide directions
- Must be at least 18 years of age by June 15, 2026
- Must have a valid US driver's license.
- Must possess basic computer skills/knowledge
- Must possess, at minimum, high school graduate level written communication skills
- Must have excellent guest service skills
- Must work well with a team
- Must be willing to follow medical protocols established by Medical Director
- Ability to prioritize level of response, care, and resources for the best patient outcome
- Must be able to document patient care utilizing SOAP notes or similarly accepted form of documentation
Other Requirements:
- Ability to drive and pass insurance driving history inquiry
- Ability to pass a background check
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy loads over long distances on uneven natural terrain
- Must use manual dexterity to operate equipment
- Must have sight, speech, and hearing abilities sufficient to learn skills, follow and provide directions
