What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Bruce Museum?
Duties and Responsibilities:
Month End and Financial Reporting
- Post Accounts Payable transactions and journal entries.
- Import and post transactions from Altru into Financial Edge NXT.
- File Connecticut State sales tax returns.
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements.
Account Reconciliation
- Reconcile bank accounts.
- Reconcile credit card transactions with Blackbaud Merchant Services.
- Prepare journal entries for bi-weekly payroll.
- Prepare and upload 401(k) contribution spreadsheets.
- Complete all account reconciliations.
Audit Support
- Assist external auditors with the annual audit process.
- Assist with preparation of Form 990 documentation.
Bookkeeping Support
- Assist the Bookkeeper with the following activities and responsibilities:
- Review daily closing reports from Front Desk, Store, Rentals, and Development departments.
- Monitor bank activity, including incoming and outgoing wires.
- Oversee the deposit process in Altru and Shopify by verifying credit card, cash, and check transactions and preparing daily deposits for posting and reconciliation.
- Ensure accurate entry of transactions into the General Ledger, including journal entries and cash receipts.
- Collaborate with the Development department to ensure proper accounting of checks and wire transfers.
- Coordinate with Blackbaud Merchant Services regarding disputed or returned credit card transactions.
- Review and Accounts Payable invoices entered in Financial Edge NXT.
- Review payment documentation files for Positive Pay processing.
Required Education/Experience/Skills
- Minimum of an associate degree required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required.
- Familiarity with Financial Edge NXT, Altru and Shopify preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with executives, auditors, and team members.
Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
