Accounting Assistant
Location: Arroyo Grande, California (In-Office)
Join Our Growing Construction Team
We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support the accounting and administrative operations of our growing construction company. This position is ideal for someone with strong accounting skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in accuracy, organization, and exceptional customer service.
The Accounting Assistant will work closely with management and play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting payroll and accounting functions, and assisting with daily office operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting
- Process accounts payable, including coding invoices and preparing vendor payments
- Prepare customer invoices and maintain accounts receivable records
- Post cash receipts and monitor customer collections
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Assist with general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation
- Assist with financial reports and special accounting projects as needed
Payroll
- Process employee payroll accurately and timely
- Maintain payroll records and employee information
- Assist with payroll reporting and related documentation
- Coordinate payroll information with accounting records
Administrative & Office Support
- Answer phones and greet clients and vendors professionally
- Maintain organized electronic and paper filing systems
- Assist with correspondence and document preparation
- Order office supplies and coordinate office needs
- Provide administrative support to management and project staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger accounting
- Experience with account reconciliations and journal entries
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Office
- Experience with accounting software (Construction Partner experience preferred)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the construction industry
- Familiarity with job costing
- Experience supporting payroll processing
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field is preferred but not required with relevant experience
