Overview
The Assignment Engineer 1 will apply engineering processes, design criteria, and software applications to design and construct power-related systems. This role supports estimate preparation, develops design options, and prepares construction specifications. The position is responsible for managing assigned work within a territory in the Tuscaloosa, AL area, ensuring safe, reliable, timely, and economical electric service for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet with customers to determine electric service needs and engineer jobs to provide service.
- Assist with engineering projects to improve reliability and perform routine maintenance on the electrical distribution system.
- Engineer large-scale projects such as roadway relocations, planned infrastructure improvements, and residential subdivisions.
- Participate in after-hours and off-system storm restoration efforts.
- Apply sound engineering practices to provide reliable, economical, and timely electric service.
- Establish and maintain excellent customer relations.
- Take ownership of assigned work and ensure compliance with safety and health rules.
Job Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university/college (required).
Experience:
- 0–5 years of related engineering experience.
- Experience in engineering, design, and construction of electrical distribution systems preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with software applications such as CYME, JETS, CSS, DistGIS, SOCKET, ADMS/OMS (preferred).
- Knowledge of distribution design standards and practices (preferred).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
- Ability to make sound engineering decisions during emergency situations.
- Leadership skills and ability to represent the company professionally.
- Knowledge of company policies/procedures, NESC, and NEC requirements.
- Willingness to travel out of area/state for storm restoration activities.
