Data Center Network Engineer
Onsite in Herndon, VA (M-F)
12-month contract
$/hr D.O.E.
Brooksource is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Center Network Engineer to support the secure operation of data center infrastructure. This role falls under the team responsible for security and will focus on maintaining and enhancing the integrity, availability, and performance of network systems. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in IP networking, routing protocols, and data center-grade hardware, along with a strong understanding of network security principles.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain secure network infrastructure across data centers.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure compliance with security standards and operational excellence.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex network issues and drive root cause analysis.
- Monitor and optimize network performance using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
- Document network architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Apply expert-level knowledge of IP networking fundamentals and protocols.
- Configure and maintain routing protocols including BGP and OSPF.
- Manage and support Cisco platforms (37xx, 49xx, 65xx, 73xx, 76xx) and associated supervisory/line cards.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of industry experience in network engineering.
- Proven expertise in IP networking, routing protocols, and Cisco hardware platforms, such as: DWDM, T1/DS1, DS3, SONET (OC3, OC48), 802.2/3, 802.1d VLANs/STP, IPv4 & IPv6, TCP (internals & flow control), BGP, OSPF, HSRP/GLBP, PIMv2, IGMP, LDP, TACACS, IPSEC & VPNs, netflow, DNS, HTTP.
- Strong troubleshooting and network analysis skills.
- Familiarity with data center operations and network security best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with network automation tools (Python, Ansible).
- Knowledge of data center physical security and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., NetFlow, SNMP, Syslog).
