Chief of Staff Consultant
Location: St. Louis, MO (Hybrid)
Compensation: $105-$110/hr
Position Type: Short-term Contract
Job Summary
The Chief of Staff Consultant will work closely with a senior technology executive and their leadership team to improve executive communication, strengthen organizational accountability, and drive strategic change as the organization prepares for merger-related growth. This consultant will assess the current operating structure, coach leaders on communicating effectively with executives, and lead targeted improvements across reporting, decision-making, and leadership responsibilities. This is a high-impact engagement focused on delivering measurable organizational improvements and enhancing the effectiveness of the leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Partner directly with a senior technology executive and members of the leadership team.
- Review presentations, status updates, and other executive communications.
- Condense complex information into clear, concise messaging appropriate for senior executives.
- Improve the quality and clarity of executive-level communication.
- Help leaders distill detailed project information into concise, decision-oriented updates.
- Provide direct coaching and feedback to program managers, delivery leads, and other leaders.
- Lead changes in reporting responsibilities and accountability across the organization.
- Shift reporting accountability from individual project managers to program managers and delivery leads.
- Help delivery leads become more capable of collecting, synthesizing, and presenting project information.
- Evaluate current meetings, communication flows, roles, and decision-making processes.
- Recommend changes that improve efficiency, accountability, and leadership effectiveness.
- Streamline large reporting and preparation meetings by reducing unnecessary attendance.
- Identify organizational and operational changes that better position the team for merger-related expansion.
- Help implement selected recommendations rather than only delivering an assessment.
- Identify potential AI-enabled improvements and recommend practical AI use cases across the organization.
- Navigate resistance and deliver difficult feedback while maintaining credibility with stakeholders.
- Coach existing leaders and leave the organization operating more effectively after the engagement.
Qualifications
- Prior experience operating at the Director level or above.
- Executive leadership or advisory experience within a large, complex corporate environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work directly with senior executives and understand the information they need to make decisions.
- Experience translating large amounts of detailed information into concise executive presentations, summaries, or recommendations.
- Strong organizational transformation, change leadership, or operating model improvement experience.
- Experience coaching senior managers, program managers, delivery leaders, or comparable leadership groups.
- Proven ability to assess an organization, identify improvement opportunities, and drive changes through implementation.
- Working knowledge of AI and the ability to recognize practical business or technology use cases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in management consulting, strategic advisory, executive operations, or a chief-of-staff capacity.
- Experience with mergers, acquisitions, integrations, or rapid organizational growth.
- Experience redesigning governance, reporting structures, or leadership accountabilities.
- Experience supporting technology, software delivery, or enterprise IT organizations.
