Business Project Manager
Location: Richmond, VA (Onsite – 4 days/week)
Contract/Full-Time Equivalent
Compensation: ~$67-74/hr
Position Summary:
The Business Project Manager is responsible for leading business-focused transformation initiatives that improve operations, processes, and service delivery across the organization.
This role operates within a structured PMO and requires strong stakeholder management, communication, and project governance discipline. The Project Manager will drive execution of a single initiative while partnering closely with business leaders, ensuring alignment, transparency, and successful delivery.
Success in this role requires the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments, maintain rigorous project structure, and drive outcomes in a highly collaborative, compliance-driven setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing the full lifecycle of a project by developing and maintaining comprehensive project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations; reporting progress to internal teams, client leadership and state oversight agencies in the agreed upon format and cadence
- Develop comprehensive project plans that keep the teams on schedule and report holistic progress
- Documenting and storing project deliverables and artifacts per PMO guidelines; ensuring they are kept current and accessible to project team members and leadership
- Develop project resource capacity plan; identify gaps and needs; work with management to address gaps and onboard new team members as appropriate
- Facilitate project governance processes, including status reporting, risk management, and change control
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and state oversight bodies to ensure compliance with Agency and state IT standards
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, ISO, and data management policies by actively engaging and working with those teams ongoing
- Prepare and present project progress to leadership, steering committees, and oversight agencies
- Promote PMO best practices and contribute to continuous improvement of project management methodology and development of the PMO at client.
- Become the “go to” person for the project; develop SME level knowledge over the course of the project
- Support procurement processes including RFI/RFP engagement, vendor evaluation, and contract management as needed.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Candidates are required to have experience performing the work summarized in the Job Description; advanced computer skills that align with the Job Description
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required
- Demonstrated experience managing a project with a budget of at least $5M (preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft products (MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook)
