About The Role
The Senior Graphic Designer is a key member of the Graphic Design Department. The role involves developing thoughtful, inventive design work for the Museum’s exhibitions, wayfinding systems, signage, and publications, while helping to maintain and evolve the Museum’s visual identity in close partnership with the Director of Graphic Design.
Working in a collaborative studio environment, the Senior Designer leads projects from concept through production and supports the broader team in creating work that strengthens attendance and revenue goals, enhances the visitor experience, and extends the Museum’s design system across all public touchpoints.

About The Role
The Senior Graphic Designer is a key member of the Graphic Design Department. Working in a collaborative studio environment, the Senior Designer leads projects from concept through production and supports the broader team in creating work that strengthens attendance and revenue goals, enhances the visitor experience, and extends the Museum’s design system across all public touchpoints.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and expand the Museum’s visual identity and creative strategy in collaboration with the Director of Graphic Design and Brand Creative
- Provides all necessary creative support in all stages of the design process for a variety of projects.
- Design and conceptualize graphic identities for 6 to 8 exhibitions per year, working closely with curators and executive level staff, and managing all aspects of production and installation.
- Work closely with the Design and Marketing teams in developing creative for campaigns to support Museum-wide marketing and communications goals.
- Works closely with Director of Graphic Design to steward the presentation of Brooklyn Museum’s brand across all channels.
- Ensure projects are well-executed according to the design vision by preparing files, defining specifications, managing timeline and production of assigned projects with various vendors.
- Articulate design ideas to internal shop teams and cultivate collaborative relationships on projects.
- Works cross-functionally and collaborates with key partners in internal and external teams as well as external agencies and freelancers. Creates presentations and other review materials as needed.
- Take responsibility to meet deadlines and be punctual.
- Oversee and mentor junior graphic designers and interns as needed.
- Expedites and troubleshoots all project-related issues needing immediate attention.
- Other duties as assigned
- BFA or MFA in graphic design or related field and 5-8 years of professional work experience in graphic design or a related field
- Advanced skill set in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Project Management Software
- Strong understanding of brand systems
- Dynamic use of typography, grids, layout, color, shape, and imagery in both 2D and 3D
- Familiarity working with type in motion, and the ability to design and produce motion graphics.
- Experience in Web Development (UI/UX design) preferred, but not required.
- Experience developing strategy and creative for marketing campaigns.
- Familiarity with production methods such as: vinyl graphic applications (both cut lettering and large scale murals), silk-screening, banners, laser cutting
- Ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, and incorporate client feedback into creative process
- Attention to detail while being a creative thinker and having the ability to work both within and without guidelines.
- Strong presentation skills and ability to articulate ideas and design rationale clearly.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to take direction, to receive feedback, and to execute accordingly
- Ability to adapt to ever-changing project types and requirements
- Being up to date on current trends in design, art, culture, and technology
- Fantastic organizational skills are a must
