What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Technologist position at Brooklyn Hospital Center?
The Surgical Technologist provides direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in the appropriate setting across the continuum of care. He/she communicates with the registered nurse about changes in the patient's clinical condition, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in the patient's condition or response to treatment; assists with surgical counts. Assists surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Monitors the level of all surgical instruments and supplies. Covers all Operating rooms inclusive of L&D.
Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or GED
- Successful completion of Surgical Technologist Program
- One (1) to two (2) years of operating experience – REQUIRED
- Certification in Surgical Technologist
- OR
- Incumbents to the Position as of January 1, 2015: Provides evidence was employed as Surgical Technologist in healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one (1) year, occurring within the four (4) years immediately prior to January 1, 2015
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Demonstrated ability to do arithmetic and communicate in oral or written English
