Bus Driver

TITLE:            School Bus Driver

QUALIFICATIONS:            

1. A minimum of a high school diploma
2. Satisfactory completion of the bus training program for certified bus drivers
3. A minimum of three years prior job experience preferred
4. Holds commercial driving license
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:    Salary and work year to be established by the School Board

REPORTS TO:                            Director of Transportation

JOB GOALS:                              To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s overall program     

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:        Such duties as may be assigned, including but not limited to, the following:

1. Meets all professional conduct standards as set by MS Educator Code of Ethics Standards of Conduct
2. Attends meetings, trainings, etc. for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting the certificate requirement/s of a school bus driver
3. Conducts emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements
4.  Drives school bus/s for the purpose of transporting passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner
5. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines
6. Prepares documents and reports (e.g. field trips reports, incident reports, inspections records, passenger misconduct, mileage logs, student counts, routing information, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information
7. Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel
8. Responds to inquiries (e.g. students, parents, other school personnel, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction
9. Supervises students and other passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining safety and following district policy
10. Follow all board policies and procedures
11. Maintain regular attendance and is punctual
12. Promote the district’s vision, mission, and goals
13. Perform any other duties as outlined by the Director of Transportation

JOB EVALUATION:               Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

The employee is required to perform all related duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator and/or supervisor. The Brookhaven School District reserves the right to revise this job description at any time.
