Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Supervisor of Phlebotomy to lead our team of blood collection specialists. Duties
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of phlebotomy staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure high-quality specimen collection.
- Oversee daily schedule management to optimize staffing levels and workflow efficiency across multiple shifts.
- Ensure adherence to laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and compliance standards related to specimen collection, processing, and documentation.
- Monitor the quality of blood sampling techniques such as venipuncture, blood sampling, and specimen handling to maintain accuracy and reliability.
- Provide direct patient care by explaining procedures clearly, ensuring comfort during blood draws, and addressing patient concerns professionally.
- Maintain detailed records of specimen collection activities, including labeling, processing, and transportation to the laboratory for analysis.
- Collaborate with laboratory management to implement process improvements, manage inventory supplies, and uphold aseptic techniques.
- Lead efforts in training new staff members on laboratory techniques, medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, physiology principles, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in clinical laboratory settings with a focus on phlebotomy or specimen collection.
- Demonstrated supervisory or management experience within a healthcare or hospital environment.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques such as venipuncture, blood sampling, aseptic technique, and vital signs monitoring.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy knowledge related to blood vessels and physiology principles essential for accurate specimen collection.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams while maintaining high standards of patient service and safety compliance.
- Experience managing schedules in a fast-paced hospital or clinical setting is preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of laboratory management practices including compliance management and analysis skills for quality assurance purposes.
- Effective communication skills necessary for patient interaction as well as interdisciplinary collaboration within healthcare teams.
