What are the responsibilities and job description for the CATALOGER III position at Brodart Co?
Under the direction of the Cataloging Services Manager or their designee, this position provides for the efficient cataloging and preparation of related bibliographic records as may be required to satisfy customer orders.
- Matches books to bibliographic records.
- Prepares bibliographic records of English and Spanish books for library catalogs adhering to International Standard Bibliographic Description for MARC format from book in hand and from publisher information includes copy and original cataloging, including: descriptive cataloging (identifying and describing the material) following RDA (or most current) rules; subject assignment (determining the subject matter of the material) and assigns LC and/or LC Annotated Card and/or Sears Subject Headings; assigns Dewey Decimal Classification (most current edition) and/or Library of Congress Classification numbers.
- Creates original and modified bibliographic records for print and/or non print materials- Performs miscellaneous clerical functions.
- Responsible to perform other duties of equal or lesser classification irrespective of required change in department, hours (including mandatory overtime) or work conditions as directed by supervisor.
- Responsible for regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain safe, clean and organized work areas.
- Cross training and substitution of tasks that may be of higher classification as may be required by supervision.
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college and/or library experience desirable; ability to read Spanish (highly desirable).
- Good typing skills, excellent spelling and grammar skills.
- Ability to pay attention to details and maintain a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to read and follow written or verbal instructions.
- Flexible to make appropriate decisions regarding safety in handling materials and respond to changing work environments.
- Ability to work/communicate effectively and respectfully with co-workers and to adhere to Brodart rules, policies and standards of conduct.
- Must be able to work in a production environment that may be subject to varied temperatures and other conditions, such as noise (conveyor), dust and glue or adhesives.
- Occasional lifting of materials up to 20 lbs occasionally and pushing of book trucks weighing several hundred pounds.
Monday - Thursday, 700am - 530pm, This position is subject to scheduled overtime which may be required based on production needs.
