Compensation:          $8,500 to $10,000

Schedule:                     Sundays, April 11-May 2, Evenings May 3-6, May 8, along with pre-production and casting meetings beginning January 2027

Location:                       Fair Park, Dallas, TX

Remote Work:            On-site: In person at the worksite, with no remote work possible

Desired Hire Date:   November 30, 2026

Position Summary:  

Spread the spirit of Broadway and promote excellence in musical theatre in and around North Texas by helming direction of Broadway Dallas signature education event: the High School Musical Theatre Awards (HSMTA) ceremony. The HSMTA Director will set the creative tone for all rehearsals and the evening itself--which brings 500 students together onstage in 12 performance numbers and distributes over 20 awards and associated scholarships in this Tony Awards-style show. This position will oversee all production and artist elements of the production in collaboration with the designers and production staff, union crew, musicians, and Broadway Dallas staff.

This position requires regular on-site work in and around the Music Hall at Fair Park. Familiarity with Fair Park and its surrounding neighborhoods is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Work in collaboration with the HSMTA creative director on artistic and production decisions.
• Oversee the direction of the HSMTA ceremony.
• Cast the opening and closing HSMTA performance numbers using participating students.
• Select opening, closing, and lead performer medley numbers.
• Collaborate with designers, choreographers, musicians, and other production personnel.
• Identify and cast an HSMTA awards ceremony host.
• Review and edit HSMTA awards ceremony script.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to HSMTA participating students.
• Maintain all proper guidelines with union partners of Broadway Dallas, including the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and American Federation of Musicians.
• Ensure production meets high artistic standards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements: 

• 8 years of experience in musical theatre directing
• Familiarity with musical theatre shows and roles
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Fluency in Microsoft Office or similar systems for file sharing, video calls, etc.
• 2 years of experience in an educational setting, preferably theatrical
• Hold a valid driver’s license and have regular access to a motor vehicle or other reliable means of transportation to and from the Music Hall and off-site events/meeting locations.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:  

• Experience directing an awards ceremony

• Demonstrated appreciation of musical theatre or the performing arts in general

Working Conditions:

• Some office tasks and computer work.
• Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 50 pounds, push/pull a maximum of 50 pounds, stand, sit, bend, and walk for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to work around children including sitting, standing, running, and climbing stairs.
