Join Broadmead (the oldest continuing care retirement community in Maryland) and their brand new Center of Excellence in Health Wellness! This state-of-the-art Health and Wellness Center utilizes a holistic approach to wellness through a variety of offerings for the 500 residents of Broadmead, the 300 employees of Broadmead and older adult members from Baltimore County and other neighboring communities. Fitness, aquatics, group exercise, massage, acupuncture, community volunteer program, spiritual wellness, manicures, pedicures, arts and ceramics are all examples of programs or services the Center of Excellence in Health and Wellness provides. The center adopts a personalized approach for every participant to help them on their health and wellness journey.
Job Requirements:
1. Assists in the oversight of the daily operation of the Cardio/Fitness Room, Group Exercise Room and Aquatics Center that operate within the Center of Excellence in Health and Wellness.
2. Responsible for providing and overseeing the comprehensive assessment and orientation process for new and current participants of the fitness areas in the Center of Excellence in Health and Wellness.
3. Leads the Assisted Exercise Program and Personal Training programs/services that are made available in the Cardio/Fitness Room
4. Assists in the design, delivery and oversight of the group exercise program.
5. Monitors repairs, needs, and general cleanliness of the fitness areas of the Center of Excellence in Health and Wellness. Reports to the appropriate persons when the areas are not maintained in a satisfactory manner
6. Design and implement programs/activities in the Aquatics Center (group exercise classes and other water activities)
7. Assist in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment for the Cardio/Fitness Room, Group Exercise Room and Aquatics Center.
8. Instruct group exercise classes and follows standards set forth in the group exercise instructor job description when doing so.
9. Perform fitness assessments, design workout programs and routines, and provide exercise instruction and guidance to participants who utilize the fitness areas. Advise exercises in methods for preventing injury
10. Attend scheduled departmental meetings as necessary
11. Ensures residents, members and guests follow posted rules and policies.
12. Develops relationships with residents and members. Maintains an “open door” to members. Answer questions and help resolve member problems and conflicts.
13. Monitor participant’s health needs as appropriate and safety issues in the CoE in Health and Wellness.
14. Monitors participant’s apparent physical, emotional, and mental health and advises the appropriate staff members if changes are observed.
15. Provides appropriate member updates to Center of Excellence in Health and Wellness team.
16. Attends assigned committee meetings and other meetings as required/requested.
17. Provides ongoing education for community, staff, residents, and families regarding wellness programs and available services at Broadmead Inc.
18. Evaluates work processes and methods and submits recommendations for continuous quality improvement.
19. Complies with all Broadmead, Inc. policies and procedures including those addressing conduct, safety, personal hygiene, and dress.
20. Maintains positive interaction with residents, guests, and other Broadmead employees.
21. Assumes responsibility for own professional development including meeting mandated standards for continuing education and staying abreast of developments in the field.
22. Perform additional duties and projects as directed by supervisor
23. Accountable for promoting internal customer service.
24. Abide by the organization’s code of conduct in the performance of their duties
Job Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science or a related field and at least two years’ experience is preferred
- Holds and maintains a fitness certification (such as ACE, AAFA, ACSM)Has experience providing personal training to exercise participants.
- Has experience teaching group exercise classes of varying types.
- CPR/AED/First Aid certified.
- A current lifeguard certification is preferred, but not required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of exercise prescriptions for all ability levels.
- General knowledge of group dynamics and human behavior practices
- Requires ability to work independently and with others
- Requires ability to work with in a team dynamic when planning and coordinating activities
- Requires the ability to work to relate well to older adults who sometimes exhibit confusion, impaired hearing or sight, or unusual behavior
- Communicates effectively (verbal and written) with residents and staff
